Built in a town that moved freight before it moved anything else
Altoona grew up around the railroad. The Pennsylvania Railroad’s shops here once employed tens of thousands of people, and the grade over nearby Horseshoe Curve made this one of the busiest freight corridors in the country. Ward Line Logistics started as a small drayage outfit working that same rail traffic, meeting boxcars at the yard, running the last few miles to mills and warehouses that the railroad itself didn’t reach.
